A confidential space to explore the thoughts, feelings and challenges in your life
Welcome to Kate Johnstone Counselling in Yateley & Wokingham - I’m glad you’re here.
Choosing to begin therapy is a courageous and important decision. Get in touch today and we can explore exactly how it can help you.
Hi, I'm Kate and I'm a fully qualified Integrative Counsellor for adults age 16+.
I think the Counsellor's role can be likened to gently holding up a mirror, helping you to reflect, make sense of your experiences and find meaning in them. If you have been through painful experiences or relationships, this can feel daunting at first. You don't have to know what's wrong to start Counselling- that's kind of the point- but seeing as you are already exploring therapy you probably have a sense that 'something isn't right' and the emotional distress you've been experiencing has become too hard to handle on your own anymore.
I work from easy access locations in Yateley, Hampshire & Wokingham, Berkshire — conveniently located near the borders of Berkshire and Surrey — and welcome clients from surrounding areas. I also offer online sessions for those who prefer or require remote support.

My background is a career in Education, both in teaching as a Special Educational needs specialist & advisor, so my journey has always involved coming alongside people in supportive relationships. I have always been passionate about understanding how we think and behave as humans, recognising it as a core part of our lives.
I have a BSc Degree in Psychology and a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I continue to develop myself by attending regular CPD training events and receive monthly supervision to ensure my practice is of the highest standard. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
I often work with people who describe things like this:
I am particularly aware of how our early experiences & relationships can continue to impact us in adulthood, sometimes in ways we don't fully realise. Counselling can help you to notice patterns, thoughts & feelings that can be hard to make sense of on your own.
Counselling takes place in a safe space, where you can meet with someone who will listen with sensitivity and empathy - and without judgement. In the therapy space thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely and in confidence.
Trouble with a relationship; anxiety or panic attacks; mood swings or depression - many people face difficulties in their everyday lives that can be hard to get on top of. Counselling gives us a set of tools we can use to help gain a better understanding of what’s causing these problems - and how you can move towards managing or resolving them.
Working together I can help you gain greater insight into the difficulties you are facing, help you understand why you act or react to them the way you do, and see how you can start to make better, heathier choices moving forward.
People come to me for help a wide range of issues, either individually or as a couple. Here are a few of the more common difficulties that can be supported through counselling:
Depression
Problems with confidence or self-esteem
Anger management
Issues relating to sexuality
Difficulties at work or in retirement
Problems with family or school life
Feelings of stress or anxiety
Panic attacks
Relationship problems
Grief, loss or bereavement
Problems with addiction
Trauma and post-traumatic Stress
Abuse
I work from therapy rooms in Yateley, Hampshire and Wokingham, Berkshire and see clients from Camberley, Berkshire, Surrey, Fleet, Wokingham, Sandhurst and the surrounding areas.
In addition to providing face-to-face therapy, I also offer online sessions for clients based anywhere in the UK via Google Meet. Contact me to find out more about how online therapy works.
Each session lasts for 50 minutes, usually taking place on a weekly basis, at a cost of £65 per session. I also provide a limited number of reduced price sessions for Counselling students who require therapy hours as part of their course; contact me to enquire about availability.
Please note that I do have a 48 hour cancellation policy; if you need to cancel a session I ask that you give 48 hours notice, otherwise the full amount will be payable. Payments are made via bank transfer.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.
All enquires are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential and uses secure phone and email services.
